Halloween News --corrected 2012 sale price

This year the Golden Downtown Merchants' Halloween Crazy Days event was better than ever--and the kids in their costumes cuter than ever. Hats off to our great merchants for holding this free, fun, family-friendly time on Washington Avenue.

There's no trick in the quarterly market update from the Denver Metro Realtors. The average sales price of Golden homes is up from $375,232 in 2011 to $385,490 in 2012 -- and sellers are getting 97.7% of their listing price. Figures show more pending sales, fewer homes for sale, and fewer days on market until sale. It's all good news for Golden homeowners invested in maintaining their property values.

Our photogenic town has been the scene of CNN's political coverage featuring Golden as a swing city in a swing county and state. Here is the story that already aired, but there will be more as election day gets ever closer. Other networks are also planning to feature Golden. And here are two print articles from Dallas. http://.dallasnews.com/2012/10/live-from-colorado-ground-zero-in-jefferson-county.html/  http://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/columnists/william-mckenzie/20121029-william-mckenzie-the-presidential-courting-of-colorado.ece

Tomorrow night's city council agenda includes the appointment of one of the nine very well-qualified persons who volunteered to serve on the Community Sustainability Advisory Board. Council will also make decisions that can clear the way for construction on the long-awaited South Side Clear Creek Trail Project and hold a public hearing on the proposed 2013 Budget and Capital Improvement Plan. On capital improvement items, council will be considering re-investment in existing infrastructure, such as street and sidewalk maintenance, community center HVAC replacement, Clear Creek stabilization, remodeling Fire Station #4 (Heritage Rd) to improve crew quarters for Golden Fire Department shift volunteers and other undertakings. Council welcomes residents' comments on both the operating budget and the CIP during the public hearing. Mike Bestor will be providing background information before the public hearing opens and there's a lot of additional material available. Give any councilor or me a call if you want more complete information.

A special event is coming up Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 pm at the American Mountaineering Center. Golden resident Erik Weihenmayer, an internationally known blind adventurer and motivational speaker, is hosting the premiere of High Ground. The film is an award-winning documentary that profiles the Soldiers to Summits program, portraying eleven veterans injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their struggles to re-enter the civilian world after dream-shattering experiences. Their stories unfold as team members make their way high into the Himalayan Mountains, through the villages of Nepal, over raging rivers and up terrifying steep terrain. Jon Krakauer, author of the best-selling book, Into Thin Air, will be introducing the film.
