Settling into the mayor's position has been a wonderful experience--meeting so many people and learning so much. I have listened to numerous community leaders from our elected officials in Washington D.C. and the Colorado State House to bright young lights of Bell Middle School, Mitchell Elementary, and Shelton Elementary.
I have attended award nights for both the police department and fire department -- and been inspired by stories of heroism, smart decisions, and caring service on the part of our firefighters and police officers. More day-to-day, but no less affecting, experiences and comments were shared during my visits to Golden Pond Retirement Community, board meetings, neighborhood parties, and English language classes for international students.
I've also put energy into talking about Golden's issues and perspectives with mayors and councilors of the Denver metropolitan area--and learning of their regional and local concerns. And I've had one-on-one conversations with many Golden residents while shopping, walking, shoveling snow, getting library books, dining out, attending community events, and working out in the community center. These conversations, too, have been invaluable. If we haven't met and talked yet, I hope we will soon.
My conclusion: it's a privilege to be Mayor of Golden,
