Last Weekend in Golden

Golden was a star of the international stage last weekend. At the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, all the hard work of Golden's volunteers and city staff came together flawlessly. Every photo of an energized crowd cheering on professional cyclists riding under the arch is an opportunity for community pride.

Other great events took place last weekend, too. The Two Angels Foundation, http://www.twoangelsfoundation.org/, which is dedicated to increasing recreational activities for Colorado children with physical disabilities, held an adaptive dash. Using the adaptive equipment that allows them to lead active lives, the participants biked or walked from the arch to the finish line. The wonderful picture below shows the littlest finisher completing the course.

And on Sunday, the Chamber of Commerce held a rally at the Visitors Center for Rae Heim, an 18-year old who is running from Boston to California barefoot to gain support for Soles 4 Souls. This program sends donated shoes to developing countries-either for immediate wear or for repair and recycling by microbusinesses. As usual, there was an enthusiastic response from Golden residents, organizations, and businesses (especially ERA, a Waters company, which donated warehouse space and funding). Here's a picture of Rae and Polly Letofsky (the first woman to walk around the world)  on Golden's Mt. Shoe.
