From the City:
Transportation Open House and Communications
Thank you for your interest Golden's transportation-related issues! If you haven't checked out www.GettheFactsGolden.org in a while, we encourage you to visit. As new information develops, we've been working hard to keep the website updated. You'll find new maps for the updated plan by Muller Engineering available at http://www.getthefactsgolden.org/goldens-plan. We are also still monitoring the Questions & Answers page if you would like to submit any questions for clarification.
If asking questions in person is more your style, visit us at the next City Transportation Plan Open House this Wednesday, September 26, at the Golden Community Center (1470 10th Street) between 5:30 and 8:00 pm. You can talk to City planners, ask questions, review maps and plans, talk with fellow residents, and vote on options for the future.
If you can't make the Open House, the City will also offer an interactive web presentation on the transportation plan on October 1, at 3pm. Register here

From the City:
Historic Preservation Board to host discussion about commercial buildings
The Historic Preservation Board (HPB) will host a final discussion at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 in the City Council Chambers, 911 10th St., about a potential new program to provide advice and recommendations for renovations of the city’s older commercial structures that are not yet historically designated.
The Historic Board has provided prior opportunities for comment, but has scheduled one final opportunity for input before sending the potential code change on to City Council. If approved by City Council later this year, the program would provide that owners of non-residential buildings fifty years old and older would have their site plans for exterior alterations or additions reviewed by the Historic Preservation Board, concurrently with staff or Planning Commission review of the project.
HPB believes that the historic character of Golden’s older commercial areas would benefit from an advisory review of exterior changes and also when such older buildings are slated for demolition.  Please plan to attend the meeting and discuss the idea with HPB members and other residents and property owners.  For more information, contact the Planning Division at 303-384-8097.

From the Golden Gallop:
On Sunday, Oct. 7, Golden’s biggest annual running race will gallop into motion for the seventh year.  Starting for the first time beneath the city’s famous ‘Welcome’ arch in the center of historic downtown Golden, and finishing next to Parfet Park beside Clear Creek, the Golden Gallop will lead its runners on a brand-new loop, covering a unique new distance, 5.280 miles. Elite runners will be racing for prize money, brave first-timers will be competing for more personal rewards, school kids will be challenging their friends, and neighbors will be running alongside neighbors.  Register online today at www.GoldenGallop.org and get your name entered into a drawing to win an iPhone 5!
All proceeds from the 2012 Golden Gallop will benefit the Golden Schools Foundation (GSF – www.GoldenSchoolsFoundation.org). GSF is a non-profit founded in 2010 by parents and community members with the vision of encouraging a high level of performance and accountability in Golden articulation area schools. These schools include Kyffin, Mitchell, Pleasant View, Ralston, Shelton and Welchester Elementary Schools, Bell Middle School and Golden High School.
