Sad News, Community Events, and More

One of Golden's favorite restaurants, Tequila's Mexican Restaurant ,is a complete loss after an early Sunday morning fire. When firefighters responded to a passerby's 911 call, there was heavy fire coming from the roof.  The building was not safe to enter so firefighters had to fight the blaze from the outside, taking several hours to get it completely out. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The restaurant will be missed -- at least until the owners can re-group.

Tickets for the Mayor's State of the Community Message and Awards for Excellence can be purchased through today for $10 on-line at www.goldenrotary.org/mayorsevent. (Though tickets will also be available for $15 at the door. ) Come to Fossil Trace Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 pm to honor individuals award winners Carrie Bazewicz, Dan Dwyer, Tracy Evanko, Marv Kay, Julie Kerwin, Greg Poulos and Ted Rains, plus business of the year PharmaJet. In addition, I will deliver the 2012 State of the Community address.

Yesterday morning was chilly, but hundreds of undaunted runners and walkers participated in the 5-mile inaugural Golden Gallop to benefit the Golden Schools Foundations. From all accounts, this was an extremely successful community event.

Goldenites may also be interested in CDOT's new Smartphone mobile application for travelers called CDOT Mobile - The Official App. The app is launching with data for the I-70 Corridor, between Denver and Vail, which sees an average of 30,000 vehicles daily. The next phase of the app will focus on the I-25 Corridor and be added this winter.  Phase three will focus on other highways throughout the rest of the state. The app will provide travelers with speeds and travel times; road conditions; road closures and other traffic-related incidents; and road work, including construction and maintenance activities. To download CDOT Mobile, simply text "CDOT" to 25827 or search for CDOT Mobile in your App Store.
