City Council Meeting, Thursday October 11

Council has a packed agenda for Thursday evening -- there's something there to interest almost everyone. (Details on all these items can be found at http://goldenco.granicus.com/GeneratedAgendaViewer.php?view_id=2&event_id=21)

Regular Meeting

South Golden Neighborhoods Plan. There will be a public hearing on the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan -- a Planning Commission/community effort that has been in the works since 2008.  (It was put on hold for completion of the Golden Vision process.)  The result of many public meetings, drafting sessions, and field trip is a document that is intended to protect the existing neighborhoods and gives specific direction on the future of the area. If adopted, it will be used in upcoming policy and capital investment decisions affecting the area.

Replatting of 3 acres at 825 N. Ford St. Family land owners of this property wish to replat lots in preparation for building three new homes on the land and dedicating tracts and easements to the City for public use. Council will consider the family's request.

Events.  Council will discuss whether or not to support an idea for a half marathon race to be in held next year in Clear Creek Canyon and end in downtown Golden. It's also time to make a decision on  submitting a bid for a 2013 stage of the exciting U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge.

Stormwater Standards Manual. Perhaps not as exciting as a pro bike race in Golden, but important nonetheless. Council will consider changes designed to provide more effective and efficient regulation of development related stormwater measures. Staff recommends adoption of the manual.

Resolution on Common-Sense, Constitutional Measures to Reduce Gun Violence. This is a matter close to my heart. Council will listen to public comment, discuss, and consider a resolution that urges our leaders to come up with a plan that respects the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens yet helps protect us from the shooting tragedies that have become so common. Steven Barton, a survivor of the Aurora shooting who just happened to go a movie during a cross-country cycling trip, will be in present to testify on the issue.

Study Session

Review of 2013-14 Operating Budget and Updated Capital Improvement Plan. Council will review the city manager's recommendations on these key components of city governance.
